The Peacock's Complaint

The Peacock’s Complaint

Once upon a time, there was a beautifully adorned peacock. As the peacock walked through the forest, he heard the plain looking little songbirds sing sweet melodies as they raced back and forth through the treetops.

“Aaaraauwwwwk” squawked the peacock, much to his own embarrassment. Discontented with his ugly voice, he went home to his friend to complain.

“It’s true, you cannot sing,” said his friend, “but your magnificent plumage more than makes up for it!”

The peacock would not be consoled. “What is the use of beauty like mine with a voice like this?”

His friend refused to entertain the conversation further... “Each of us has been granted gifts, yet you complain! The eagle has great strength, you have your beauty, and the mockingbird his song. Only you, however, remain dissatisfied. With your attitude, surely even if you were granted the ability to sing, you would find some other thing you don’t have to complain about!”

Moral of the Story: Instead of envying the gifts of others, make the most of your own.

The Peacock's Complaint: A Modern Fable

One day, there was a talented back-end developer named Peacock. Despite all the efforts Peacock make on his team, it often felt like they were in the shadow of the UX (User Experience) designer, Gale.

Gale's beautifully crafted designs received compliments from customers and stakeholders frequently. They praised the intuitive layout, the sleek interface, and the seamless user experience. As these compliments flowed, Peacock felt a pang of envy; after all, it was the coding mastery that made Gale's designs come to life, yet they received none of the accolades in all the customer feedback.

Unable to contain his frustration, Peacock approached Gale.

"You’re always getting compliments from the customers! It's as if they don't even realize that without my coding, your designs would just be pretty pictures," Peacock blurted.

Gale listened patiently before responding, "I understand what you’re saying, Peacock. Remember, though, that we're on a team. Your coding skills are invaluable, and my job wouldn’t even be a thing without you being able to do what you do. Customers might not see the lines of code behind the interface, but they definitely feel the impact of your work, whether they realize it or not!"

Peacock paused, realizing the truth in Gale’s words. "I guess you're right. It's just frustrating sometimes, you know?" Gale smiled sympathetically. "I know, Peacock, but let's not forget that we each bring something unique to the table. Your coding skills and my design expertise complement each other perfectly. Instead of focusing on who gets the compliments, let's celebrate our achievements as a team.”

Modern Moral: Teams are stronger than individuals and not everyone has to be able to do everything for the team to succeed.
